Winter Dinner at Roessler's in Burlingame
A winter dinner at Roessler's in Burlingame. We got there right at dusk, the sky still holding a little blue behind the palm that hangs over the place — an old Tudor-fronted building with the name lettered above the big paned window, dining room already glowing orange inside.
The surprise was the courtyard: a fire bowl set on top of a fountain, flames coming up out of a bed of glass over green-lit water, with cushioned benches built into the walls around it. We sat out there for a while before going in, close enough to the fire that February didn't matter.
Inside, glasses kept accumulating on the table — a couple of whites going at once, servers moving past with trays of red for other tables. Nobody rushed us. We didn't rush either.
