An August Campout in a Grassy Field

Spent a late summer day and night camping out in a large, open field somewhere in the Bay Area back in August 2014. It felt a bit like a festival, with cars parked along the perimeter and tents dotted all over the grass.

We got our big canvas tent set up in the afternoon under a partly cloudy sky. The day was pretty relaxed, just hanging out with friends and getting settled in before the sun went down. The light was nice and soft as the day wore on.

As soon as it got dark, the campfires started. Our group gathered around a metal fire pit, which became the center of our evening. It was the main source of light and warmth for the rest of the night. We stayed up for a while, just talking and watching the flames before turning in.
