An Early September Hike Above Lake Tahoe

We took advantage of a perfectly clear day on the first of September to get out for a hike. The sky was a deep, uninterrupted blue, and the lake looked just as vibrant from the viewpoints along the trail.

The path climbs up through pine forest and over rocky, volcanic-looking outcrops. Every break in the trees offered another incredible view of the water and the mountains on the far shore. You could see boats making tiny white wakes across the surface, giving a sense of the sheer scale of the basin.

We stopped at a few different spots to take in the view. There was one particularly gnarled piece of driftwood resting on a high point, looking like it had been there forever. It’s always nice to find these quiet places just a short distance from the main road.

It was just a simple day out, nothing too strenuous, but it felt good to be out in the sun and fresh air before the seasons start to turn. We grabbed a couple of quick photos at the top before making our way back down.
