Sunny September Afternoon on the Chairlift Swing

Nothing planned today, so I carried the cat out to the old chairlift swing under the big ponderosa. September in Truckee is like this — warm enough to sit outside in a hoodie, the pine needles already down thick and brown over what's left of the green.

He put up with being held longer than usual, which for him counts as enjoying it. Ears going the whole time, tracking things in the trees I couldn't see. At one point he opened his mouth at something and I never figured out what.

The swing wood is going grayer every year. The needles crunch underneath when it moves. We stayed until he'd had enough, which he announced by climbing halfway over my shoulder.
