An October Afternoon at Home with New Kittens

It was early October when we brought home two kittens. One is black and white, the other grey and white. They started out exploring the carpeted stairs by the painted brick wall in the basement. The black and white one seemed a bit more settled, lounging on the step, while the grey and white one was a little more timid, hiding under a blanket for a bit.

Soon enough, though, we broke out the toys. A feather wand and some little plastic balls were all it took to get them playing on the living room floor. The afternoon sun was coming in through the windows, creating bright patches on the carpet that they tumbled through.

The two of them chased the feathers and batted at the toys, sometimes watching each other and sometimes ignoring everything else completely. They were already starting to play and wrestle with each other, a good sign they were getting comfortable in their new space. We just spent the day on the floor with them, watching them figure things out.
