An October Afternoon Halloween Party in the Backyard

This was a backyard Halloween party from mid-October 2012. It was a bright, sunny afternoon, perfect for the kids to run around in their costumes. We had a great collection of characters show up: a princess in a pink dress, Spider-Man, a SWAT team member, Snow White, and a few others with bat wings and assorted gear.

The whole gathering was pretty informal. The kids mostly just played around the yard, near the covered pool and the swing set. It was that classic, chaotic energy of a bunch of young kids hyped up on the idea of Halloween, all running around together on the grass.

At one point, an adult brought out a pumpkin, and all the kids gathered around it on the lawn. It felt like the official start of the celebration. Later, another adult joined in wearing a full skeleton costume, which was a big hit.

It was a simple get-together. Just a bunch of families, a sunny Bay Area backyard, and a lot of kids excited to wear their costumes. It was one of those easy, pleasant days that captures the feeling of the season before the actual trick-or-treating night arrives.
