An October Day Floating Down the River

We started the day under an old concrete bridge, the water running clear and shallow over the rocks. Through the arch, you could see the mountains waiting for us downriver. It was a crisp, bright morning in early October.

Once we pushed off, the river opened up into a wide, sunlit channel. The water's surface glittered, and the sky was a deep blue with just a few wisps of cloud. My friend took up a spot in the bow, and we settled in for the float.

The scenery was immense. We drifted between low, rolling hills and rocky banks, the trees along the shore just starting to turn yellow. The mountains were a constant presence in the distance. I took a turn with a yellow paddle, steering us through the quiet current.

By the end of the day, the light was lower, casting long shadows from the mountain range. It was a simple, quiet day spent moving through a huge landscape.
