A Sunny October Day Hike by the Lake

We took advantage of a clear, sunny day on October 13, 2010 for a hike up in the mountains. The air was crisp but the sun was warm on the granite rocks. The trail wound through pine trees and dry brush, with our oldest happy to lead the way and pose for photos on the rocky outcrops.

The goal was a small, calm lake nestled among the forested hills. We made it down to the water's edge, which was perfectly still and reflecting the trees on the far side. It was quiet and peaceful, a perfect spot for a break. I held the baby while our daughter explored the shoreline a bit.

It wasn't a long or strenuous day, just a simple outing to get some fresh air. It's always nice seeing the kids out in this kind of landscape. Even just sitting on a sun-warmed rock by the water seemed to make for a perfect afternoon.
