Coffee and a Quiet View of the Coast

A few days at the end of September, spent mostly looking out at the water. The weather was consistently overcast, that flat grey light that softens everything and makes the ocean look like slate. The air was cool and still.

My mornings started out here, on a balcony with a cup of coffee, just watching the coastline. From the wooden table, you could see the palm trees and the people walking along the path below. It wasn't bright, sunny beach weather, but that wasn't the point.

The view was always changing in small ways. The tide would shift, exposing different parts of the rocks just offshore. Through a longer lens, you could see sea lions or seals clustered on them, dark shapes against the stone. It was a quiet stretch of time, marked by the sound of the waves and little else.
