Early April at the Castles of Hohenschwangau
We spent a couple of days around the famous Bavarian castles in early April of 2018. The weather was fantastic — clear, bright blue skies — but you could tell it was the very beginning of spring. All the trees were still bare, and the mountain peaks surrounding the Alpsee still had a good amount of snow on them.
We started with a walk along the path by the lake. It was pretty busy with other people doing the same. The water was perfectly still, giving off these incredible reflections of the mountains. From the shore, we got our first view of the yellow Hohenschwangau Castle up on the hill.
After walking around the lake, we headed up to Hohenschwangau itself. The sun was bright, and looking up at the castle walls and towers from below made it seem huge. The best part of being up there was the view across the valley. From one of the terraces, we could see Neuschwanstein Castle perched on its own rugged hill. We took a few selfies with that iconic backdrop. It was a crisp, perfect day for it.
