Exploring the Glass Domes of Seattle
I spent a couple of days in early August 2018 walking around a newer part of Seattle. The main draw was the glass geodesic domes, which stood out against a partly cloudy sky. From the outside, you can see the lush greenery packed inside, a stark contrast to the surrounding glass and steel towers.
The whole area is a network of pathways winding between modern buildings. It felt very planned, mixing manicured green spaces with sharp architectural lines. There was still a lot of construction happening at the time, with cranes visible in the background, making it feel like a neighborhood still coming into its own.
Stepping inside one of the domes was a completely different experience. The air was humid, and a fine mist was being sprayed over a massive vertical garden that stretched up towards the glass ceiling. It was like a contained, curated jungle in the middle of the city.
After walking around, I grabbed a bite to eat nearby. Sometimes the most memorable part of a day of sightseeing is the simplest—in this case, a heaping plate of fries covered in grated cheese and herbs.
