Late August Light in the Garden

Tall white-flowered plants with large green leaves are backlit by sunlight in a garden with a green lawn.

End-of-day walk around the garden, late August light coming in low across the lawn — the one week of the year the hostas earn their keep twice. All the flower stalks came up together and they're leaning every direction now, white and half open, the sun going straight through the petals from behind. Lower buds already spent on a few of them.

Over by the rocks the sedum is coloring up, and the buddleia next to the miscanthus is mostly seed spikes now, one magenta head still going among the grass plumes.

Still hanging on: the phlox, and a single yellow daylily. One of the daturas had opened its trumpet all the way; the one beside it was still twisted shut, waiting for dark.
