Late August Light in the Garden

A quiet day at home in late August. The sun was getting low in the afternoon, catching the hosta flowers and making them seem almost transparent. They're at the very end of their season, but the light hitting them from behind was something I had to stop and capture.

I spent a bit of time just walking around the yard to see what was still in bloom. Down near the water, some of the tall grasses were starting to turn, but the butterfly bush was still going strong. The daylilies have been a constant this year, and a few were still looking particularly vibrant against the dark foliage behind them.

Everything feels like it's on the verge of turning over to autumn. The white trumpet flowers have a brief but dramatic bloom, and the pink phlox is as bright as ever. It was just a regular Tuesday, making a few observations of the last bit of summer in the garden.
