Late February Days and a New Garden Path

It's been a quiet stretch of days at home this past week in late February. The light has that clear, early spring quality to it, even though it's still cool. I spent a good amount of time just sitting in the window seat, watching the sun move across the trees and the street outside.

On one of the sunnier afternoons, I took some flowers from the garden—a big pink camellia and some smaller blossoms—and arranged them on the concrete patio. Just a small, temporary thing to mark the day, catching the long shadows as the sun went down.

The main event of the week has been the landscaping project out front. The new stone path is finally in, winding through the freshly turned soil. It was slow work setting each stone just right. We've been putting in new plants around it – mostly succulents, grasses, and a few agaves that should do well here.

By the end of the week, it's starting to look like a real garden. The path connects everything and leads right up to the house. It feels good to see the yard coming together, tying into the lines of the building.
