Mid-September Days by the Lake
Just a regular stretch of days at home in mid-September. The weather was holding strong, clear and calm, so we spent most of the time outdoors. We took the dog for a hike to a small lake tucked back in the trees. The water was like glass, giving back a perfect reflection of the tall pines that crowd its shoreline. He was content just walking along the sandy edge, dipping his paws in.
The trail through the forest was quiet, with sunlight breaking through the canopy onto the big granite boulders scattered around. Later in the weekend, we spent some time down by the big lake. The panorama from the shore was incredible, as always, with the water looking impossibly blue under a cloudless sky.
A few boats were out making the most of the conditions. I saw a sailboat with a bright rainbow sail making its way across the water, a nice pop of color against the deep blue and the grey mountains. Down at the marina, I got a closer look at a classic wooden boat tied up at the dock, all polished wood and chrome. We finished the day out on a pier, watching the last of the boats come in as the sun went down. It was a good, quiet weekend.
