Pudong Skyline After Dark in Shanghai

Lujiazui first, up one of the towers after dark — the Oriental Pearl's spire sitting below eye level from up there, which takes a second to accept, and the Huangpu bending around the district like a moat. Then back down and across the river to the Bund side to see the same buildings the way everyone actually knows them.

That is the view people mean when they say Shanghai: Oriental Pearl on the left, Shanghai Tower on the right, and everything in between running messages down its face. One building spelled out "Hi 魔都" in pink — hi, magic city, Shanghai greeting itself. The tower cycled colors the whole time we stood there, blue when we arrived, pink and purple later.

Cruise boats worked the river without a break, one of them lit electric blue from the waterline up, brighter than half the skyline behind it. We leaned on the railing above a China MSA barge and stayed long enough that the Aurora sign across the water had run through its rotation twice.
