A 2014 Halloween and a Giants World Series Parade
The end of October 2014 was a study in contrasts. It began on a small scale, with a school Halloween party. The kids were thrilled in their costumes—a witch, a princess, and a leopard—sitting at tables covered in purple spiderweb tablecloths and snacking on treats from themed paper plates.
The very next day felt like the entire city was celebrating. We found a spot with a high vantage point overlooking Market Street for the Giants' World Series parade. Looking down, the street was just a solid mass of people packed between the tall buildings. It was an overcast day, but the energy of the crowd was palpable.
From our perspective, we could see the procession moving slowly through the urban canyon. The orange double-decker buses, carrying the players, inched along through the dense sea of fans. Then came the finale: confetti cannons erupted from a nearby building and the parade floats, showering the street and the buses in a storm of white paper. It was a chaotic and unforgettable way to celebrate Halloween in the city.
