Busy Spring Ski Day at Northstar
Skied Northstar today and so did everyone else, apparently. The corral at Arrow Express was packed all the way back to the buildings, roped lanes full of people shuffling forward on their skis, boards stacked up on both sides. Spring break energy, or just a Sunday with decent snow — hard to say which.
Once we got up top it thinned out. The snow was soft and already tracked up by mid-morning, but the runs off the ridge were open enough to actually ski. Lake Tahoe kept showing up between the trees at the top — that gap where you can see all the way across to the far shore, mountains still white behind it.
We stopped there a couple of times to catch our breath and take pictures, which meant standing around long enough to notice the clouds moving in over the lake. Never turned into anything, just a gray band sitting on the far side all afternoon.
The three of us made a decent day of it despite the lines. Legs of the season are what they are in March — we quit before the snow went fully to mush.
