A Clear October Day Out at the Point Reyes Lighthouse

Had a couple of remarkably clear and sunny days at the end of October, so I drove out to the coast. The view from the headlands looking south over the Great Beach was vast, with the coastline stretching out for miles under a pale blue sky. The air was crisp and the visibility was great.

Closer to the point, the cliffs were covered in that bright red and green ice plant that always seems to catch the light. The sun was hitting the water, making it sparkle. It’s always a bit of a commitment to walk the long staircase down to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, but the perspective is worth it.

The structure itself is tucked right into the rock, looking weathered but sturdy against the constant sea spray. From that vantage point, you can really feel the force of the ocean as it hits the offshore rocks. It was a good, simple day spent just looking out at the water and the rugged line of the coast.
