A Collection of Ponies on the Kitchen Counter
A small herd of My Little Pony figurines took up residence on the kitchen counter over the past couple of days. A mix of generations, some new and some that look like they're from the 80s, all gathered on the speckled granite. Their bright pink and purple plastic manes are a strange contrast to the kitchen's neutral colors, especially under the glow of the under-cabinet lighting.
They stood there for a day or so before attracting the attention of our cat, Miles. He hopped up to investigate the newcomers, cautiously stepping around them and giving them a good long stare. He seemed mostly unimpressed by the colorful plastic creatures that had invaded his countertop territory, but he sat with them for a while.
Later that night, long after we'd turned the main lights off, I walked into the kitchen and saw him sitting there like a gargoyle, watching over the silent herd. Just the low light from under the cabinets illuminated the scene. Just another quiet, slightly surreal night at home.
