A Quiet Weekend Escape to the Mountains

We left for the mountains on a clear weekend in early June. The drive was straightforward, just open roads under a big sky, which is always a good way to start a trip.

We found a spot centered around a small, still lake with incredibly clear green water. It was surrounded by tall pines, and the air was cool. We spent the first part of our time there just exploring the shoreline, wading into the shallows and balancing on rocks near the bank.

Away from the water, we wandered into the forest. We came across a massive fallen pine, and of course, had to climb it. It's the simple things like that, just playing around in the woods, that make these trips memorable.

Later on, we took the dog and hiked up to a large granite rock outcropping. He had no problem scrambling up to the top. We all just sat there for a bit, taking in the view of the trees against the partly cloudy sky. It was a quiet, much-needed couple of days away.
