Slow November Days Close to Home
Slow November days close to home, and this one went the way most of them do lately — up the trail toward Double Peak in the late afternoon, no plan beyond walking until it got dark.
A hawk was sitting on the trail post near the dog-bag dispenser and didn't move as I came up on it. It stayed put longer than I expected, so I did too. The brush on the hill has gone that dry orange-brown it gets by November, all the way up to the antennas.
Stayed out past sundown. The valley to the east had already gone hazy blue by the time I turned around, and the houses in San Elijo were switching their lights on below me on the walk back down.
