Desert Wedding Weekend with Friends
Two of our friends got married in Palm Springs this weekend, and a whole crew of us came out for it, booked into the ACE Hotel & Swim Club on East Palm Canyon. Most of the daylight went to the pool, which has the mountain sitting right behind the hedges and a bougainvillea going off at one corner.
The night ran through a supper club with a guy working a mic from a stool, then a tiki bar built into a lava-rock wall with clamshells wedged in it, then another bar with a whole sailfish mounted over the wood paneling. Palm Springs keeps its old rooms.
The wedding itself was on a lawn under string lights, red cups and cornhole boards instead of a dance floor. The bride threw bags in her dress. Well after dark there were still six guys in shorts holding down one end of the boards, and one of them had gotten hold of a microphone.
The morning after: loungers dragged into the shade, big hats, nobody moving fast.
