A Few Days in the California Desert

We took a short trip out to the desert for a few days at the start of April. The first part of the trip was spent exploring the landscape of Joshua trees and huge, rounded rock formations. The sky was full of dramatic, fast-moving clouds, but the sun was bright when it broke through. We spent a good amount of time just climbing around on the boulders.

The next day was for relaxing. We found a spot with a pool and palm trees and just soaked up the sun. It was a nice contrast to the high-desert hiking and a good way to recharge before heading out again.

We ended the trip with a different kind of hike, this time into a canyon with a running stream. It felt like a hidden world after the dry landscape of the day before. The trail followed the water up to a few small waterfalls cascading into clear pools. We all hung out by the water for a while before making our way back. It was a quick trip, but we saw a lot of different sides of the desert.
