December Holiday Celebrations in Walnut Creek
The December calendar in Walnut Creek has filled itself in all at once. First came the grown-up round: a holiday party with friends, sweaters and necklaces under someone's tree hung with glass icicles, then another evening with two old friends where we lined up for a photo three separate times before everyone had their eyes open.
Broadway Plaza did its tree lighting and Santa's arrival downtown, and our daughter got her turn in the big red chair — glitter still on her cheek from face painting, Santa leaning down while she looked up at him and kept talking.
At home the elf has raised the stakes, building a snowman out of a stack of toilet paper rolls on the dining table, complete with a scarf, a carrot nose, and a sign asking if anyone wanted to build a snowman. That one got a big reaction at breakfast.
And her Daisy troop gathered after school in their blue smocks, thirteen of them practicing the Girl Scout sign. It took a few tries to get everyone signing in the same direction at the same time — one girl kept her sunglasses on throughout.
