A Few Quiet Days on the Mountain in Mid-January

A few quiet days at home from January 16th to the 18th. The weather was mostly overcast, with the sun just a bright spot behind a thick layer of clouds. It made for some interesting, flat light on the mountain, illuminating the snow-covered rock formations along the ridgeline.

I spent some time on the slopes, taking in the familiar views. From the lift, you could see the expanse of the resort, with countless tracks carving lines through the trees and down the open faces of the mountain. It wasn't a perfect bluebird day, but there's a certain stillness to being out in the cold when the sky is like this.

One evening ended with dinner out. The restaurant's main feature was a huge mural covering one wall, a stylized painting of the lake and surrounding landscape. It felt like a fitting way to end a day spent outside, sitting in the warmth and looking at an artist's version of the very place we'd just been.
