A First Birthday Celebration for Claire

We celebrated Claire's first birthday in October of 2007. The living room floor was covered in gifts wrapped in yellow paper and a sea of colorful, curly ribbons. She seemed more fascinated by the textures and colors of the wrapping than whatever might be inside, looking up at the camera with a very serious, curious expression.

After presents, it was time for the main event. We had a classic chocolate sheet cake decorated with a little frosting wagon, flowers, and a big pink number one. The pink '1st Birthday' balloon bobbed nearby.

We sat her in her high chair, bib on and a butterfly clip in her hair, and gave her a piece of cake. She seemed to enjoy her first real taste of birthday cake, getting frosting all over her hands and face. It was a simple, happy celebration at home, just focused on this little milestone.
