A Foggy Day Hiking in the Redwood Forest

We spent a day in August hiking through a redwood forest. A thick fog settled in the tops of the trees, muffling sound and keeping the air cool and damp. We followed a simple dirt path that wound through the undergrowth, surrounded by ferns and lush greenery.

The scale of the trees is hard to capture. You really have to stand at the base of one to feel how massive it is. We spent most of the time just looking straight up, trying to see where the trunks disappeared into the mist. It felt like walking through a cathedral.

We stopped for photos along the way, trying to give a sense of scale. It’s humbling to stand next to something that has been growing for so long. The air was clean and the forest was quiet, besides the sound of our own footsteps on the trail. It was a simple and impressive walk.
