Late August Stillness Near Tahoe

A few quiet days near the end of August. Waking up here means the first thing I see is the tops of the pines through the mesh of the tent. Mornings are straightforward: get the pour-over coffee setup going while the air is still cool.

Our camp was simple but comfortable. We had the rooftop tent on the trailer, a couple of chairs out, and an orange hammock strung between two trees that caught the afternoon sun. The green Jeep was parked just up the dirt road, ready to go but mostly sitting still. It was a good, quiet base for a few days.

I spent some time walking down to the lake. There's a cluster of old wooden buildings near the water, weathered and quiet. One of them looked like it might have been an old hotel or store, with its windows now boarded up. They feel like they've been part of this landscape for a long time.

The lake itself was sparkling under a completely clear sky. The water was calm, with just a small boat docked at the shore. It was a peaceful, standard few days spent outdoors before the season changes.
