A Mid-August Drive and a Day at the Lake

A few days in mid-August spent close to home. The GPS was already dusty from the last trip out, and the Jeep was ready for another run on the backroads. I headed out through the usual pine forests, kicking up dust under a clear, bright sky.

The route eventually opened up into one of the big high-sierra meadows, all dry and golden in the late summer sun. It's a familiar landscape for this time of year, quiet and expansive.

The goal was to get to the water. I ended up at one of the smaller, calmer lakes. The sun was high and the light was sharp, reflecting off the surface. A couple of small boats were out, but otherwise, it was pretty peaceful. I spent some time just watching the light on the clear water near the shore before heading back. Just a standard summer day out here.
