Late April Ski Day at Palisades Tahoe

Snowy mountains covered in evergreen trees with a distant lake and additional peaks under a clear blue sky.

Late April ski day at Palisades Tahoe. The season is winding down but the upper mountain still had plenty of coverage, and from the top you could see all the way out over the lake — hazy, but the far shore of Tahoe was there past the ridgelines.

The snow tells you what month it is. Rocks are showing along the ridge below Granite Chief that were buried a couple months ago, and the granite outcrops down toward Shirley are mostly bare now. Everything softens up fast once the sun gets on it, so the afternoon turned to spring corn — sticky in spots, fine if you kept your speed up.

Stopped by the stone arch near the top before heading down. Trees on the south-facing slopes are melting out in rings around their trunks. Maybe a couple more weekends left in it.
