A Late April Ski Day High Above Lake Tahoe

It was late April, a time when most people have put their skis away for the season. But up high in the mountains around Tahoe, the snowpack was still deep and the coverage was excellent. The sky on this particular day was a crisp, clear blue with just a few scattered clouds, making for perfect spring conditions.

The views from the ridge were immense. You could see across what felt like the entire basin, with snow-covered peaks rolling into the distance. Far below, Lake Tahoe was just visible, a deep blue against the hazy horizon. The landscape was a stark contrast of bright white snow and the dark green pines clinging to the slopes.

There wasn't much of a plan for the day beyond getting out and enjoying the weather and the lingering winter conditions. It was a good reminder of how lucky it is to have this kind of access so close to home. Just a straightforward day taking in the huge, quiet landscape before the full spring melt began.
