Quick Spring Trip to Santa Monica

Quick spring trip down to Santa Monica. We walked the Third Street Promenade first — jacarandas starting to bloom over the walkway, restaurant patios spilling out into the middle of the street with Guinness banners strung along the fencing, everybody out in the sun.

From there we went over to Palisades Park and stood at the fence above the beach, the pier and the Ferris wheel off in the distance. Wind coming off the water the whole time — our hair in every selfie proves it. The kid put up with two rounds of family photos, which felt like a win.

We ended the day up the coast in Ventura, on the beach near the pier as the sun went down. Waves kept pushing up higher on the sand than we expected, so it turned into that game of walking along the waterline and jumping back. Sun dropped right at the end of the pier, mountains going dark behind it. Walked back over the dunes to the car after the color faded, a pelican still cruising over the water.
