A Late October First Birthday Celebration

We celebrated a first birthday in late October 2019. The party took place on a wooden deck in the backyard, under a clear, sunny sky during that late afternoon golden hour. Family gathered around to watch the gift opening.

My dad wore a festive jack-o'-lantern shirt for the occasion. The presents were a hit, especially a new green 'My Pal Scout' toy that got a big smile. We all gathered on the deck, and I tried to capture a few photos of the moment.

The main event was the cake. We set up two high chairs side-by-side, decorated with star banners and a big bunch of balloons. Each of the kids got their own little cake to do with as they pleased.

One cake was bright blue, the other was a fuzzy-looking green monster. It didn't take long for them to get their hands into the frosting. It was a perfectly messy and happy way to mark the milestone.
