A March Evening Walk by the Oakland Waterfront
Just a quick walk around the waterfront on a Thursday evening in mid-March. I started down by the port, where a huge Matson container ship was docked near the Bay Bridge under a heavy blanket of clouds.
From there, I headed over towards Jack London Square. The clouds started to break up right at sunset, creating some really intense color over the marina. I stopped for a while by the big red sculpture at the edge of the grass to watch the light change. The sun found a gap in the clouds and lit up the whole sky, reflecting off the water between the rows of sailboats.
The color lasted for a while, shifting from orange to gold. It was a classic Bay Area sunset, the kind you get when the weather can't quite make up its mind. On the walk away from the water, the last bit of light was gone from the sky, and the city lights were on. I passed the Tribune Tower, which was all lit up against the dark blue sky.
