A Mid-May Weekend on a Northern Lake

We drove up for a weekend in mid-May, hoping for decent weather, and got lucky with a couple of perfectly clear, sunny days. The first thing that struck me was the water. It was incredibly clear and calm, stretching out under a bright blue sky. It was still too cold for swimming, but the light on the shallow, sandy bottom was beautiful.

Our time was mostly spent on the water. The house was right on a sandy shore with its own dock, and we took the Chris-Craft out to explore the waterways and the open lake. It was quiet, just the sound of the boat moving through the narrow channels lined with evergreens. The air was crisp and the sun was strong.

The first evening ended with a quiet dusk over the water, the sky turning soft blue and pink over the tree line on the far shore. By our last day, the weather had turned. The sky was a flat, cloudy gray, and the wind had picked up a bit. It felt like a signal that the brief trip was over. We stood on the lawn for a final look at the lake before heading home.
