Saying Goodbye on a Sunny Spring Day

It was a bright, sunny day in mid-May for a somber occasion. We gathered at the cemetery, where the grass was a vibrant green under a clear blue sky. A simple green tent was set up for the graveside service.

There weren't many of us there. We stood by the casket, saying our final goodbyes. It felt strange and contradictory to be at a funeral on such a beautiful spring day, with the trees budding and life blooming all around the cemetery grounds.

After the service, we found comfort in being together, sharing hugs and just being present for one another. We lingered for a bit in a grassy field nearby, a small group of adults and children in the sun.

The day ended back at home. Seeing the kids laughing in the hammock in the backyard felt like a small return to normalcy. A quiet, gentle end to a difficult day.
