A November Weekend on the Northern California Coast
Spent a weekend in mid-November exploring the coast. The weather was clear and the sky was a bright, deep blue. I started by just walking around town, which was full of old, well-kept Victorian houses and weathered wooden barns that felt like they'd been there forever. There was a unique natural foods store operating out of a former church, complete with stained-glass windows and a rainbow-painted steeple.
Most of the time was spent out on the headlands. The sun was bright and low, making the ocean sparkle. From the cliffs, I could see waves crashing through a large rock arch and watched a small boat making its way across the water. Down at the beach, the light caught the sea spray as the waves rolled in against the sand.
Later, the tide was out, exposing fields of dark, seaweed-covered rocks and still tide pools that reflected the sky. Walking back from the shore, I passed an old apple tree, its branches still full of red fruit, which seemed surprising for this late in the year.
