Early April Afternoon at the Beach
Early April and warm enough to be at the beach in a bikini top, which still feels like getting away with something. We spent the afternoon on the sand — waded out first, then walked the waterline where the surf was breaking, then gave up on moving at all and sat down.
The water is a green I don't see much: pale near the shore, darker out toward the horizon, with waves coming in steadily enough to keep the edge of the beach churned white. Windy, but the good kind.
The sand is more shell than sand in places. There were rocky lumps of the stuff further up the beach, and the last stretch of the afternoon went to digging around them, turning things over, keeping nothing. A gull went by once and that was about all the company we had.
