Saturday Night Out with Friends in Grand Rapids
A Saturday night out with friends in Grand Rapids — the whole crowd ended up at a bar with exposed brick and big black leather chairs, the kind of place where you can still smoke indoors, and most of us did. Ashtrays on the table next to the pints, cigarettes going while the conversation went wherever it went.
Good turnout. The girls held down one end of the table over beers and mixed drinks, and there was a lot of laughing — the sort where somebody's eyes are shut and they can't finish the sentence. Everybody else paired off around the room in twos, sunk into those chairs, catching up.
No agenda beyond that, which was the point. We stayed a long while. The chairs were too comfortable to leave and nobody was in a hurry to settle up.
