A Quiet Birthday Weekend and a Bluebird Day

A pretty standard mid-February weekend at home. We had a run of those incredibly bright, clear days that you get up here in the winter. The sun was intense, hitting the water and creating a blinding reflection between the tall pines. It felt cold and bright at the same time.

The weekend also included a birthday celebration for my mom, Linda. Nothing fancy, just a get-together at the house. We got a great chocolate cake for her, which is always a highlight. It feels like the best celebrations are often the simplest ones.

With the weather holding, we decided to get a ski day in. The conditions were perfect — blue skies with just a few wisps of clouds and a great view of the peaks across the way. The snow was packed and fast. It was just one of those solid, uncomplicated days on the mountain that reminds you why you live here. A good way to round out the weekend.
