Christmas Day at Home in San Marcos
Christmas morning in the living room, everyone still in pajamas, the plaid ones making their annual appearance. The cats got catnip fish, which turned out to be the presents with the longest run — both girls spent a good stretch of the morning on the couch flopping the toys around while a cat sat in each lap looking unimpressed.
The big gift was the graphics card, which got carried straight back to the bedroom and held up like a trophy. The other big hit was a black-and-white bear onesie, worn immediately, with the matching plush tucked into it.
Wrapping paper everywhere, remote controls in the copper tray on the ottoman where they always end up, the tree still lit through the whole thing.
By evening the whole hillside had its lights on. Stood out back after sunset and could see strings of color running down toward the coast, one neighbor's pool glowing blue in the middle of it all.
