Quiet Snowy Days and a Mountain Inversion in Tahoe
A mid-January weekend at home in Tahoe after a big storm passed through. Everything was covered in a thick blanket of fresh snow, weighing down the pine branches. The first day had some dramatic, clearing skies over the lake, but mostly it was grey and heavy.
The overcast weather made the smaller lakes look like glass, perfectly reflecting the snow-covered trees and houses along the shore. It was incredibly still and silent, the kind of quiet that only happens after a big snowfall. The air was cold and damp.
After a couple of days socked in, we went up to one of the resorts to ski and found a completely different world. We broke through the cloud layer and emerged into brilliant sunshine and clear blue sky. The entire valley below was hidden under a sea of white clouds. It's always a surreal experience to be standing on a mountain in the sun, looking down on a total cloud inversion.
