Sunday Kayaking on Scotts Flat Lake
Took the Hobie out to Scotts Flat for a Sunday on the water. Down the hill from Truckee, worth the drive when I don't feel like fighting for a launch spot closer to home.
The lake is low — a wide dirt band around the whole shoreline, and the campgrounds across the way sit farther from the water than they used to. The morning was flat calm, the clouds sitting on the surface almost as sharp as they were in the sky, and I mostly just pedaled and let the drive do the work. By midday a little chop came up and the reflections broke apart, so I put my feet up on the bow and drifted for a while instead.
No agenda beyond covering water. A few people on the far bank, one bird working low over the surface, otherwise had my stretch of it to myself. Hauled out in the afternoon with the haze thickening over the ridges to the east.
