A Saturday Afternoon at a Local Art Exhibit
Spent a Saturday afternoon in early June wandering through a local art exhibit. The space had a great industrial feel, with high ceilings and old brick walls that made a nice, warm backdrop for the artwork on display. It looked like the artist was still putting the final touches on his setup when I arrived.
He had a pretty extensive collection laid out on black-draped tables. It was a mix of framed, multi-dimensional wall art and lots of ceramic sculptures—vases, textured spheres, bowls, and other abstract forms. He seemed to be carefully considering the placement of each piece.
The work itself was very textural. Lots of earthy tones, metallics, and complex glazes. Many of the pieces, both on the wall and on the tables, had a constructed, collage-like feel to them. I was particularly drawn to the large ceramic sculptures, especially one that looked like an abstract face, composed of different shapes and colors with a striking blue eye.
