Park morning and pool afternoon in San Francisco. The morning went to Mission Playground, off 19th and Linda in the Mission — nearly 100,000 square feet with a clubhouse and courts, and Mission Pool on the grounds, built in 1916, the only outdoor pool the city runs. The little one worked through all of it: the red play train marked M525, the bucket swing (which took some real pushing before the laughing started), the roller slide, and a climbing rock that needed a spotter at the bottom.

The afternoon was the opposite scale — the inflatable pool, ankle-deep water, and a berry popsicle held overhead like a trophy before it got eaten standing in the shallow end. It dripped down the cherry swimsuit the whole time and nobody minded.
