An October Birthday and a Sudden First Snow
We celebrated a birthday at home in mid-October 2021. The main event, aside from the person of honor, was a large, plush green dinosaur hat that became the official uniform for opening presents at the kitchen counter. We spent the day inside, warm and focused on the celebration, opening gifts and cards.
What we didn't expect for that weekend was the weather. A storm rolled in and left a thick blanket of snow overnight, completely changing the landscape. The golden leaves on one of the trees outside were suddenly dusted with white, and the surrounding pines were sagging under the weight of the fresh powder.
It was a strange but memorable combination of events. One moment we were indoors celebrating, the next we were looking out the window at the first, heavy snow of the season. It felt like winter had arrived all at once.
