Spring Day Trip to San Luis Obispo
Day trip down to San Luis Obispo, mostly because it's April and Truckee is still working through its snowbanks. SLO, meanwhile, has hawthorn blooming pink over the sidewalks downtown, whole hedges of it going at once, buds still opening at the top.
No real itinerary. Walked past an old Victorian near downtown — pale blue with red trim, a big magnolia taking over half the front yard, even the stair rails painted to match. The whole block felt like it had been kept up on purpose.
Stayed until after dark and ended up on Higuera Street near the Creamery Marketplace, string lights on over the patios, people still out. The mural at 570 Higuera says SLO IRRESISTIBLE in letters taller than I am, flowers painted around the door like a seed packet blown up to wall size. Canned Pineapple Co. did it, and apparently it's been greeting people coming into town since 2018. First time it greeted me.
