A Sunday Afternoon Observing the Animals
Spent some time on Sunday, September 3rd, walking around the zoo. The weather was mild and the light was even, good for just observing.
Started over by the flamingos, who were grouped together in their enclosure. The area is full of lush green foliage and rocks, making their bright pink color stand out. They were mostly just standing around, preening or wading in the shallow water.
I spent a good while at the elephant habitat afterwards. It's a large, dusty enclosure with eucalyptus trees and wooden posts. I watched one of the elephants walk the perimeter, moving slowly past piles of dirt and enrichment toys. Another one stood more or less in place, just shifting its weight. They seem so calm and deliberate in their movements.
Before leaving, I passed an enclosure with a secretary bird behind a wire fence, standing among some desert plants. It was a quiet afternoon just watching the animals go about their day.
