A Sunny Afternoon at the Santa Monica Beach Playground

We spent a Saturday afternoon at the beach in Santa Monica back in April 2013. It was a classic Southern California day—bright sun, clear blue sky, and a lot of people out enjoying it. We started at the playground area on the sand, just south of the pier.

The kids went straight for the gymnastic rings and swings. They spent a good while just playing there, with the Pacific in the background. It's a pretty unique setting for a playground, right on the sand with the sound of the ocean.

Later, we were just hanging out on the main stretch of beach. From that spot, the Santa Monica Pier with its Ferris wheel and roller coaster stood out against the sky. It's such an iconic view. The entire beach was active, with families playing and people walking or cycling along the path. It was just a simple, busy afternoon in the sun.
