A Sunny St. Patrick's Day on the Patio

It was a bright, clear St. Patrick's Day back in 2018, and warm enough to spend the afternoon outside. We didn't really do much, just hung out on the patio enjoying the sun. My dog found the best spot right away, settling onto a cushion with the bright red bougainvillea and the hazy coastline behind him.

He's not one to sit still for long, though. Soon enough he was up on the wicker chairs, sniffing the air and making funny faces in the harsh sunlight. He has a habit of showing his teeth when he's particularly interested in a smell, which always looks more like a strange grimace than anything aggressive.

For a while, he just moved from one piece of furniture to the next, posing for the camera whether he meant to or not. His big ears were catching the slight breeze coming up from the hills below. It was just a quiet afternoon, a simple day spent watching him enjoy the warmth.
