A Weekend of Summer Skiing in Tahoe
It was the last weekend of June 2017, and there was still enough snow on the mountain to ski. The parking lot was full when I arrived, under a perfectly clear and intensely bright blue sky. It felt strange to be surrounded by so much snow with the sun beating down this warmly.
The ride up the lift offered incredible views over the valley and the lake in the distance. The snow was definitely spring conditions—slushy and thinning out in patches, revealing the dirt and rock underneath. You could see where the coverage was getting sparse, especially around the pine trees.
It wasn't about finding perfect runs, but more about the novelty of being on skis this late in the year. I spent some time just taking in the view from the top, looking at the trail map and the wide-open landscape. It was a pretty standard weekend at home, just with the unusual twist of summer snow.
